Promoting Open Science: UC Chile Libraries Enhance Global Access to Research
The Library System at UC Chile offers extensive information sources, services, tools, and resources, supporting researchers and academics in Chile and internationally in their pursuit of knowledge creation.
Open Access (OA) to information and knowledge is essential for advancing science, and UC Chile Libraries are fully committed to supporting this initiative.
Supporting research, publication, and research data management is a core priority. To achieve this, the Library System offers researchers and academics a range of essential resources, including:
- Information sources and databases
- Digital infrastructure
- Specialized services
- Research tools
The overarching goal is to enhance the research impact, dissemination, and visibility of UC Chile's scientific and academic contributions, which will benefit both the university and the international community.
"We provide a comprehensive range of services to support every stage of the research and publication process, responding promptly to the evolving needs of academics, researchers, and students. We are dedicated to partnering actively with our academic and administrative units," stated Denise Depoortere, Assistant Director of Libraries and Services at UC Chile Libraries.
Direct Access to Knowledge
The UC Chile Library System has implemented strategies and resources that provide researchers access to 263 databases. New transformative agreements with significant publishers enable UC Chile researchers to publish Open Access articles without additional processing charges (APCs). Agreements have been established with:
- American Institute of Physics (AIP)
- Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)
- Cambridge University Press
- BioMed Central - SpringerOpen (BMC)
UC Chile researchers can publish via the Gold Open Access route through these agreements, ensuring their work is publicly, permanently, and freely accessible upon publication.
